Planning Abbreviations

Briefing Vocabulary
PDF - Principal/Primary Direction of Fire (I.e. PDF 1, PDF 2).
FDL - Forward Defense Line.
LOA - Limit of Advance.
LOE - Limit of Exploitation.
LOD - Line of Departure.
AA - Assembly Area.
HVT - High Value Target.
MVT - Medium Value Target.
SA - Staging Area.
RV - Rendezvous (emergency ones included, ERV).
FLOT/FFL - Forward Line of Troops/Front Fighting Line.
AO - Area of Operations.
TAO - Tactical Area of Operations.
NLT - No Later Than.
Coy - Company.
HQ - Headquarters.
TAOR - Tactical Area Of Responsibility.
AOR - Area Of Responsibility.
AO - Area of Operations.
IOT - In Order Too.
ASAP - As Soon As Possible.
LP/OP - Listening Post, Observation Post (can be used as one word, LPOP).
VH - Vehicle Hide.
VCP - Vehicle Check Point.
ECP - Entry Control Point.
KLE - Key Leader Engagement.
TML - Team Leader Meeting.
AAR - After-Action Report or Review.
HA - Holding Area, commonly used as Humanitarian Assistance as well.
CENTCOM - Central Command.
CG - Commanding General.
CO - Commanding Officer.
OC - Officer Commanding.
TBA - To be Advised.
SATCOM - Satellite Communications.
POE - Point of Entry.
INT - Intelligence.
HUMINT - Human Intelligence.
LOG - Logistics.
EW - Electronic Warfare.
UW - Unconventional Warfare.
CW - Conventional Warfare.
KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid.
MTC - Move/Movement To Contact.
OPSEC - Operational Security.
PERSEC - Personal Security.
OBJ - Objective.
TOT - Time On/Over Target.
MTO - Mission Tasking Order.
ROE - Rules Of Engagement.
SEAD - Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses.
Zulu Time - Local Time.
PONR - Point Of No Return.
AS - Air Support.
BP - Breach Point.
LOF - Limit Of Fire.
MDCOEA/MDCEA - Most Dangerous Course of Enemy Action.

US Department of Defense Dictionary of Military and Associated Terms

It's advaisable to try and learn the differences in abbreviations and terminology between different national militaries.

For example the aabreviation for Company:

US: Co.
Commonwealth: Coy
semper acer , semper velox , semper trux , semper promptus
