Tactical Assault Group (TAG, SASR, CDO)

Post by Ryan » Tue Apr 12, 2011 12:45 pm

Speaking of Special Forces - without a meaningless and pointless arguement of who is better than who - I give you Tactical Assault Group (TAG).

What do you guys reckon? Comment with neutral feelings, please!* :P

*Just a note, I would saw off the end of the front sights of the MP5 seen in the video, sight picture is a lot more smoother with it trimmed down about 3/4 to 1/2 way. See I've already started the discussion!

You read it wrong - I said without any pointless arguement of who is better than who - reference to the other topics in "Special Forces" category, it wasn't a question, I was pointing out that there is no need for that here (Delta Force vs SAS crap: http://www.cqb-team.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=783). :D

Certainly is a great video of them in action, heres another:

Including maritime CT.

Yes, that's why we don't ask those questions. :D
It's more of an analysis this video and tell of what you think question that I asked.

See anything bad/wrong in the videos?
What were the good points also?

http://www.defence.gov.au/media/downloa ... 260304.cfm
http://www.defence.gov.au/media/downloa ... 061213.cfm

Does anyone know the names, references (pictures or video) or links to some of the equipment used? Or similar items that would work? (Modelling them for a game).

Came up with this basic list:
- Black overalls; protection against heat and flame, reinforced with extra flame retardant felt at the fore arms, knees and shins. The overall has a drag handle so a casualty can be dragged out of the way fast.
- Respirator fitted with communication device and throat microphone.
- Body armour; for different grades of protection extra ceramic plates can be added.
- Fire proof underwear, facemask (Balaclava) and gloves.
- Non slip boots.
- Ballistic Helmet with tags, e.g. M for Medic etc.
- Knife and pistol holster seperate.

Configurations change on job so I don't need to worry about that, e.g. high chest or shoulder chest for driver, high chest knife sheath for rappelling.

In the TAG-E video, what's the room entry done at 3:44? One comes head on and moves into the room creating walkway space behind him, others come from double stack left and right of him clearing HC's. They almost get stuck coming in behind the guy haha.

I'd say it's an error in judgement where one of the two operators following the pointman had jumped the gun, so to speak, and entered at the wrong time. I don't think they were supposed to enter through the door at the same time as part of their SOP.

Another thing I saw was one of them muzzle sweeping the point man which probably happened because he realised that he screwed up just then and was momentarily distracted.

Just some basic things that can be easily fixed, thats what training is for after all.
