MOUT vs CQB

Post by Ryan » Sat Sep 07, 2013 1:16 pm

Basic questions! :D

How does MOUT - Military Operations in Urban Terrain - differ from CQB - Close Quarter Battle?

Isn't MOUT an umbrella term, including CQB, humanitarian aid, patrolling, etc etc.? Basically every operation the military undertakes in an urban environment is MOUT, whereas CQB is just that - Close Quarters Battle.
More guns and bullets make bad guys go away faster,
which in turn makes everyone in the area safer.

Basically, and often forms combined arms, larger unit structures (squad, platoon on up) in operations boxes and other limits of the area they are patrolling. You can think about it as that. MOUT is often broader, area-focused.

How about CLOSE COMBAT? I think CQB is combat in CLOSE TERRAIN so close combat IS CQB.

you can look at it in 3 ways:

1: They are a military and a LE acronym for the same conditions
2: Military personel execute MOUT, until they reach a indoor objective where the name changes to CQB.
3: Most likely its kind of a grey area, and you can 't really compare military ROE and conditions to LE's equivalent.
