I have to say, I'm very unimpressed with the videos. The techniques range from showmanship, average, to totally unrealistic.

This is just some simple stuff on short notice. I'm thinking about leaning heavily towards forearm strikes. and the SPEAR system. I've had lots of opportunities to apply these techniques lately but have instinctively went to something else(which was effective on every occasion). I plan on drilling a lot on this stuff so that I can use it next time. I doubt I'll be able to strike with the muzzle very often though(frowned upon), so I'll lower the gun and use a forearm strike.

Oh agreed on my videos, they were just for show to start off the topic.

OPSGEAR do a great "tactical tip" series. Nice vids. What about without a long rifle, handgun would still be forearm strike? Still keep up variety as you never know who might be the one being disarmed or strucken, grappling is good for this if it goes to ground.

Yea, a forearm strike would work well.

I have also seen placing the handgun under the support hand, creating and X and driving into the suspect to knock him over. Risky because of weapon retention issues, but if done suddenly and violently, with a partner backing you up, I could see it really being effective, while holding a handgun and flashlight. The jury is still out on that one though.

Found this pretty interesting! I like the way he teaches and his style.

If this happens, just go with this. It's like, 'Don't over-think, but do this to gain an advantage'.


I watched a few other videos - one taught by an IDF Major (Special Forces) on Krav Maga and another by the man who developed the RAT system for the Military. I found Cucci's easier to understand and see adaptive in 'everyday street fighting', not 'if this happens, do this, exactly like this, because it happens... exactly like this'.


The voice-over doesn't help. Getting out of the neck lock he teaches OK. But not 100% realistically, as always with promotion videos.


Interesting. Mix of Krav Maga and KAPAP.

That's exactly how we train in my combative class. At the end of the class my instructor and one class mates put on the suit and pretty much finish the class with a live scenario drill. I still have to buy myself a suit so my other class mates can participate too because I feel bad when it's only my instructor and that one class mate who put on the suit.
