Arma 2

Post by Ryan » Tue Apr 12, 2011 1:02 pm

Though Armed Assault 2 (Arma 2) is not yet close quarter battle friendly, it will be in the near future (hopefully) and it is a good military simulator to keep your eyes on.

It is the only game with great ballistics and graphics at the same time. :)

It has plenty of mods - The ACE 2 (Advanced Combat Environment) mod being the best of the lot and adding many features that are NEEDED.

"Pragmatism over theory."
"Anyone with a weapon is just as deadly as the next person."
"Unopposed CQB is always a success, if you wanted you could moonwalk into the room holding a Pepsi."

As you can see, not too CQB friendly at the minute but this game improves dramtically every 3-6 months and mods update all the time to make it better.

The Arma series is one of my personal favorites, and got alot of potential.

Arma 2 as you said lacks the CQB, but the CQB spectre of the game has been greatly improved in the Operation Arrowhead expansion pack. In Arma 2 OA most of the buldings can be entred and searched, but the CQB is still clumsy in the sense of movent is not fluid and the AI have problems when entring a building.

When it comes to the development of a Arma 3, it seems the bohemia Interactive have put that project on hold. Now they work on a helicopter sim called "Take On Helicopters". It looks like Bohemia Interactive is wainting to develop a Arma 3 till they have a better game engine.

Kind regards, Dramatikk. :)

Got it and yes it is a big improvement, though the AI are still a bit one-shot kill, head-shot from 10m before you even get to turn into the corner. If only flashbangs and other devices worked properly!

Arma 3 needs a way better engine, you're right. A "mil-sim" company was looking into this engine below, unfortunately it wasn't BIS.
