Right or Wrong? Quick Question Conserning Room Entry

Post by Dramatikk » Thu Dec 29, 2011 11:34 am

In this video at 1:25, was it the right decision to throw the DD through the window before checking whether the door was locked or not? Would it not be better to first check the door, breach it and then throw in the DD ... Instead of the other way around? Curious, thats all.

Kind regards, Dramatikk. :)

I would say it would be best, and as per SOP for some units, to check the door first. At least have a breach and back-up breach ready incase it jacks up. It looked like a wrecked piece of crap door anyway, kick it down should of been good enough. Check the seconds guys muzzle a cm off the guys head as he chucks it in.

It was some mil-sim unit ?
We train always to check if the door (window, gate, etc) is close or not. It saves time and ensure the moment of surprise.

DD never throws first man.

Checking to see if a door is locked or not is called "soft checking". And as badger pointed out, it's bad practice to have point man handle the DD or whatever other equipment he might be using. Normally it's the second man who throws the DD while point man provides security on the entry point.

So what's hard checking? :P

I've heard the terms "soft" and "hard knock". I.e. knock on the door and ask if you can come in, used in places like Afghanistan to not incite hatred. Hard knock being just burst down the door.
