Intelligence gathering

Post by Ryan » Mon Apr 25, 2011 1:53 pm

Ways to gather intel?

Visually eyeballing the target, be it through a scope, binoculars, etc.
Inserting microphones and cameras, easily jammed.
Using robots and other mechanical devices, easily taken out and heard - not exactly easily controllable - not stair friendly in most occasions and are perfect height for booby-traps.
Using optical wands, endoscopes or mirrors. This is a good one as you are gathering the intelligence you need before you enter that room, it's up to date.

What else? Any ideas, techniques or equipment that should be taken?

Ask for a floor plan is one exists.

Talk to witnesses.

Watch/listen to recordings of sorts (security cams/emergency hotline calls).

Schematics - tactical diagramming.
Information on the suspects via databases, pictures.
Using the media to gather information on suspects, hostages etc.
Fingerprints from suspects - via touching food sent in? etc.
Weaponary and markings leading to manufacturers etc.

A few more ideas:

Recce by fire.

Firing at a certain area and trying to get a reaction, from this you can pinpoint bad guy positions.

Recce by decoy.

Using a decoy to draw out the bad guys or draw fire.
