camelbaks and backpacks

Just looking for suggestions on having camelbacks and backpacks work together. I have heard the following solutions: Buy ALICE frame and get the bladder to sit in the airgap of the frame (some people say it works, others say it doesn't) Place the bladder in the pack but take it back out when you dro...

Re: Reloading

For weapons with a bolt lock feature do you personally find it easy to differentiate between the weapon running out of ammo and a malfunction, even under combat stress? In the two opposing views below Tireiron says you can do it easily while Haley is of the opinion that it is hard under stress. @ 12...

Re: Tactical Pied Pipers

I have to confess that I used to be a fanboy to a lot of these pied pipers. But that was back in the day when knew nothing. To this day I still don't know much (compared to the more experienced guys on this forum) but I can confidently say that I know a lot more than I did back then and I know enoug...

Re: Thunder Ranch Video Series

I've said this to ryan before but watching Clint Smith run an A2 type rifle with nothing on it except a flashlight and a two point sling is a satisfying change to all the magpul type gear whore craze of the last few years.

Re: Russian Counter Terror Confidence Drill

One person said that his might be a psy op to mislead people into believing that they are unconcerned for their own safety for the sake of training while they are really much more reasonable etc. I can't say if this is correct but I think it is plausible.

Mag fed support weapons for rifle squad/sections

The USMC has adopted the M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle as either a replacement or supplement to it's M249 SAW. While no other service I know of is following this as of yet could this be a new trend or concept on the rise? I believe the rationale behind this is because of the fact that the US Marines ...

Interesting point about differing environments. It might be something to use in particular environments.

Other than that you would probably be told to drink a cup of concrete and harden the f*ck up.

Liquids? My immediate concern is for fighting which means ammo is my first concern not bloody water. ACE works for me, LACE sounds stupid, no offence to anyone who subscribes to this.

Re: Non-Rigid vs Rigid system

In The Land Of The Blind, The One Eyed Man Is King - Or You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know ... A third phenomenon affecting the training world comes from the term – L.C.D. That refers to “Lowest Common Denominator”. The LCD is a term thrown around in police training, and in some military circles wh...

Re: Square Range Gimmicks

Good post Ryan, the square range really does only give you a small slice on reality. what exactly do you think you are doing? While “overtraining” in weapon skills is obviously NOT a problem in comparison to all of the people who are undertrained, and constant practice IS important; it’s also import...

Re: Non-Rigid vs Rigid system

You see the problem with TTPs like stacking is really just the surface of the problem. The real problem is really at the fundamental level because if there was no problem at the fundamental level all these problems at the surface level would disappear. Yes you are right about dogma and everyone jus...

Re: Non-Rigid vs Rigid system

Going furthur lets look at a quote from the second post in this thread. Most Teams don't understand tactics but rather spend all of their time learning and employing what I call Prefabricated-tacticsTM. Here are some examples of military doctrine that don't really allow for much flexibility or adapt...

Re: Non-Rigid vs Rigid system

Well Ryan I think the problem here is the time it takes to get someone up to a certain standard. As mentioned earlier in this thread in order to make use of non rigid/fluid tactics you have to have a really deep understanding of what and why you are doing it. You have to really get what makes things...

Square Range Gimmicks

Facebook, Ego, Arrogance & the Training Challenge The thing about square ranges: they are part of a transition to field firing, to further training, at least they are supposed to be. They are not the end. If you stick on a square range, then you just develop fads and ridiculous stuff to do as instr...

Re: Non-Rigid vs Rigid system

Pretty much agree with points about bureaucracy. As MSG Paul Howe says here unless you are in SF/SOF you are pretty much going to get the minimal amount of training needed to get the job done and if you want to improve you are going to have to go out and get it else where.
